Headteacher's Blog β Friday 23rd October 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
We've made it to half term! After a busy eight weeks, I think everyone across Romilly is ready for a well-earned break!
As we reach the end of our first half term of the school year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on just how much our children have achieved since September. It has been a wonderful eight weeks, filled with learning, new experiences, friendships, challenges and plenty of reasons to celebrate.
One of the real joys of being Headteacher at Romilly is seeing the incredible range of opportunities our children experience every day. Whether it is the enthusiasm of our youngest children settling into their new classes, the creativity and curiosity on display in lessons, or the growing confidence and responsibility of our older pupils, there is so much to be proud of.
This half term, we've enjoyed some fantastic moments across the school. Our Harvest celebrations were a wonderful example of the generosity of our school community, with families donating food to support others. We've celebrated Welsh language and culture through Shwmae Day, enjoyed exciting learning through our STEAM curriculum, and seen our older pupils beginning to take greater ownership of school life through our new pupil committees and Playground Pals.
Of course, alongside these bigger events, there are hundreds of smaller achievements happening every day. A child reading something they couldn't read a few weeks ago, someone showing kindness to a friend, overcoming a challenge or simply growing in confidence. These moments matter just as much, and I am incredibly proud of our children.
I also want to say a huge thank you to our staff. Their dedication, care and hard work make Romilly the special place it is. It has been a long and busy half term, and I hope everyone gets the opportunity to rest, recharge and enjoy some time with family and friends.
A Fond Farewell to Mrs Nerys Evans
Today is a particularly emotional day at Romilly as we say goodbye to our wonderful Mrs Nerys Evans, who is leaving us after almost 21 years of dedicated service.
Since joining Romilly in 2005, Nerys has made an extraordinary contribution to our school community. From leading nurture provision and supporting families, to developing our lunchtime Snug, organising our pre-loved uniform shop and bringing her wonderful creativity to classrooms across the school, she has made a difference to countless children and families.
But what makes Nerys so special is her warmth, kindness, sense of fun and genuine care for others. She is one of those people who makes a school feel like a family.
On behalf of everyone at Romilly, I want to say a heartfelt diolch yn fawr, Nerys. Thank you for everything you have given to our children, families and colleagues over the years. You will be greatly missed, and we wish you every happiness in your next chapter.
Once part of the Romilly family, always part of the Romilly family! π
Thank You to Our Wonderful PTA!
What a fantastic way to finish the half term! Our Halloween discos on Tuesday and Wednesday were a huge success, and it was lovely to see so many children enjoying themselves with their friends.

A massive thank you to our Friends of Romilly PTA and all the volunteers who gave their time to organise and run the discos. Events like these take an enormous amount of planning and hard work, and we are very grateful.

I'd also like to thank the PTA for their continued support of our STEAM learning and the opportunities they help us provide for our children. Their fundraising, enthusiasm and generosity make a real difference to school life.
We are incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive school community.

Outdoor Learning – Can You Lend a Hand?
One of our priorities is to continue improving our outdoor spaces so that children have even more opportunities to learn, explore and play.
On Friday 6th November, from 9:15am until 12:15pm, we are holding our next Parent Help-Out Morning, and we would love as many volunteers as possible to come along.
We'll be clearing, tidying and improving some of our outdoor learning areas, ready for the exciting activities we have planned.
You don't need any special skills, and you certainly don't need to stay for the whole morning. Whether you can spare an hour or three, every pair of hands will make a difference.
Supporting a school doesn't always mean giving money. Sometimes giving a little of your time is even more valuable.
If you can pr
ovide the manpower, we'll provide the refreshments!
If you are able to help, please complete our short form:

Please sign in at the school office on arrival, where Mrs King will meet our volunteers.
Thank you in advance for helping us make our outdoor spaces even better for our children.
School Dinners – A Clarification
I'd also like to clarify something from last week's newsletter regarding school meal ordering.
From Monday 2nd November, Big Fresh will be introducing its new school dinner menu. However, our existing arrangements for ordering school meals at Romilly will remain unchanged.
Although some schools are moving to a system where children select their meals each morning in class, families at Romilly can continue to order meals in advance through ParentPay, as usual.
In fact, we would encourage families to continue ordering meals at home wherever possible, as this helps us ensure that children receive their preferred choices and makes our mornings run more smoothly.
I apologise for the confusion caused by last week's newsletter and thank you for your understanding.

Enjoy the Half-Term Break!
Finally, I want to thank all our parents and carers for your support throughout these first eight weeks. A successful school is built on the relationships between children, families and staff, and I have been so encouraged by the support and sense of community across Romilly.
I hope the coming week gives everyone a chance to slow down a little, spend time together and enjoy a well-deserved break.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 2nd November, refreshed and ready for another exciting half term.
Thank you for being part of Romilly Together.
Best wishes,
James Griffiths
