What a brilliant first full week we have had at Romilly!

It has been wonderful to see the children arriving so happily each morning and settling back into school life. There has been a positive atmosphere across the school, and the children have quickly got back into the swing of learning and school routines.

A huge thank you to families for helping children arrive in the correct PE kit on their allocated day. Children will continue to enjoy STEAM Days during the year, but PE lessons have now been organised separately. This means that each class’s PE day will remain consistent, making it much easier for families to plan ahead.

Working together with families

At Romilly, we are committed to building strong and positive relationships with our parents and carers. We know that children thrive when school and home work closely together.

This year, we are introducing several initiatives to help families feel better informed and more involved in school life. At the same time, we recognise that communication from school can sometimes feel overwhelming. Our aim is therefore to make it meaningful, consistent and easy to access.

Weekly year-group blogs

Each week, every year group will publish a short blog sharing:

• Some of the learning that has taken place that week
• A look ahead to the following week
• Important dates, events or requests
• Simple ideas for supporting learning at home

You can find this week’s blogs in the year-group sections below. We hope they will provide a helpful window into your child’s experiences at school and give you some lovely opportunities to talk together about their learning.

Curriculum overviews

We understand that parents and carers want to know more about what their children are learning in school.

Each term, children explore their learning through an inquiry or topic. Wherever it is purposeful, teachers make connections across the Areas of Learning and Experience—or AoLEs—which form the Curriculum for Wales.

Our teachers work carefully to plan engaging, progressive and ambitious learning experiences. We have produced a curriculum overview for every year group, giving families a concise introduction to the learning planned for the term.

Ready to begin our autumn inquiries

During the first two weeks of term, children have taken part in focused wellbeing activities. These have helped them reconnect with friends, build positive relationships with staff, establish routines and revisit our shared expectations: Be Safe, Be Ready and Be Respectful.

From Monday, children will begin their autumn-term inquiries. You may see the phrases “Jump In Day” and “Jump Out Day” in our blogs and curriculum overviews.

A Jump In Day is an exciting and memorable experience designed to spark children’s curiosity and launch a new inquiry. A Jump Out Day takes place towards the end of the inquiry and gives children an opportunity to celebrate, apply and share what they have learned. We are also planning opportunities for families to join us for some of these special events during the year.

After-school clubs

We are delighted to be offering a varied programme of after-school clubs this term. The clubs will begin during the week commencing Monday 21 September.

On Monday, we will email families with details of the clubs available and information about how to request a place through the Arbor app.
