Y4 Blog Friday 25th September

This week’s learning
Year 4 had a fantastic day on Tuesday at St Fagans. We explored the Celtic village, including the roundhouses, farms, cottages and working mills. We were fascinated by the thatched straw roofs and the tiny stone cottages where families slept on straw beds and cooked over open fires. We can’t wait to use everything we learned to support our topic lessons this term.

In Mathematics, we have been learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000.
In Literacy, we have been developing our story-writing skills by using direct speech and powerful adjectives to make our writing more exciting and engaging.
Bullies Out visited us this week, where our focus was ‘Kindness Matters’. We took part in a workshop and enjoyed some thoughtful discussions about kindness, respect and looking out for others.
We also had our first House Group meetings, where we elected our Vice Captains and House Captains. Well done to our Year 6 pupils who have taken on these important leadership roles!

Important information for next week
· Spellings: Our weekly spellings have been sent home. Please spend some time practising these with your child in preparation for their spelling test the following week.
· PE: Year 4 PE will take place every Thursday. Please ensure that children come to school wearing their PE kit on this day. This should include black shorts or joggers, a plain white T-shirt and trainers.
How can you help at home?
Please can children read as much as possible at home to help build their vocabulary and grammar skills for our story writing lessons. Thank you for your continued support at home. We hope you enjoy hearing all about our learning this week.
