Y2 Blog- Friday 25th September

1. This week’s learning 🌟
What a fantastic week we have had in Year 2!
🏰 We started the week with our brilliant Jump In Day, and everyone looked amazing in their medieval costumes! Throughout the day, we made colourful shields, baked some delicious oatcakes, and listened and played along to medieval music using a variety of instruments. 🎨🎵
We even went on a very loud and lively medieval procession around the school grounds to welcome all of our wonderful lords, ladies and knights! 👑⚔️ It was a fantastic way to bring our new topic to life.
🔢 In Maths, we have continued developing our understanding of place value, using practical resources such as Dienes and place value grids to help us explore tens and ones. Next week, we will build on this learning by beginning to explore number lines.
📖 In Talk for Writing (T4W), we have continued our work on Jack and the Beanstalk. This week, we have been exploring adjectives and using sentences of three to add more exciting description to our writing.

2. Important information for next week 📚
🏰 Exciting news – Cardiff Castle Trip!
We are very excited to let you know that we have booked a Year 2 trip to Cardiff Castle on Tuesday 10th November! This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to bring their learning to life and explore a real castle as part of our topic.
Please look out for a letter with more information coming home soon.
We will also be looking for some parent helpers to join us on the trip. If you are available and would be interested in coming along, please let your child’s class teacher know. 😊
📚 A little reminder that reading books need to be returned to school every Friday so that they can be changed ready for the following week. Please continue to practise reading with your child as often as you can at home.
3. How can you help at home? 🏡
You could support this week’s learning by asking your child to practise describing things using three adjectives – perhaps describing a character, an object around the house or even their dinner!
For Maths, try spotting numbers when you are out and about and ask your child questions such as “Which number is bigger?”, “How many tens and ones are there?” or “Where would this number go on a number line?” 🔢
Thank you, as always, for your continued support! 😊
