Year 2 Weekly Blog – W/B 19th October

1. This week’s learning 🌟

What a fantastic final week of the half term we have had in Year 2!

📖 In Literacy, we have been busy completing our Hot Task, writing our very own Jack and the Beanstalk stories independently. We are incredibly proud of the children's determination, imagination and fantastic use of their writing toolkit to create some brilliant stories! It has been wonderful to see how much their writing has developed over the past few weeks. After half term, we will be moving on to our exciting new Literacy focus – instructional writing!

🔢 In Maths, we have been learning how to add using a number line, developing our confidence with different strategies to help us solve calculations. We have also been making good use of our 'Best Friend 10' to make adding easier and more efficient. Be sure to ask your child all about it – they might even be able to teach you a trick or two!

💛 We also had a fantastic visit from the charity Bullies Out, who delivered a wonderful workshop all about kindness. The children explored the importance of treating others with respect, being thoughtful and understanding how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. It was a lovely opportunity to reinforce the positive relationships we have been building throughout the half term.

🎃 We absolutely loved seeing all the fantastic, creative and wonderfully scary costumes at the Halloween Disco! The children looked amazing, and it was lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves. A huge diolch to our wonderful PTA for organising another brilliant event! 👻🕷️

2. Important information for next week 📅

🍂 Half Term Holiday!

We have reached the end of our first half term in Year 2, and what a busy and exciting few weeks it has been!

We are so proud of how well the children have settled into their new classes, embraced new challenges and grown in confidence.

🏰 Cardiff Castle Trip – Tuesday 10th November

A reminder that our exciting trip to Cardiff Castle will be taking place after half term on Tuesday 10th November. We are really looking forward to bringing our Castles topic to life!

📚 Reading Books

Please continue to enjoy reading together over the holiday. Remember to return reading books on the Friday we return so that they can be changed.

3. How can you help at home? 🏡

🔢 You could practise some simple addition calculations with your child and ask them to show you how they use a number line or their 'Best Friend 10' to help them find the answer.

📖 With our new Literacy topic focusing on instructional writing, why not involve your child in following instructions at home? This could be helping to bake a cake, making a sandwich or explaining how to play their favourite game!

🎃 Most importantly, enjoy some well-deserved family time together! We hope you all have a wonderful half term filled with fun, laughter and perhaps a little spooky excitement!

We can't wait to hear all about your adventures when we return, especially all the Halloween trick-or-treating stories! 🍬👻

Thank you for all your support throughout our first half term. Have a lovely break, everyone! 😊🍂
