This week's learning
This week, our Topic learning has focused on completing our wonderful Watermelon Smile portraits! Over several sessions, the children have worked hard to bring their artwork to life, carefully developing their portraits and adding their own creative touches. It has been lovely to see their ideas develop throughout the process, with everyone having the opportunity to experiment with their artistic skills and express their individuality. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this project and have shown fantastic creativity, patience and attention to detail as they worked towards completing their final masterpieces. We have loved seeing the pride they have taken in their work and watching their confidence grow as young artists. We are so proud of the fantastic effort Year 3 have put into their Watermelon Smile portraits. Da iawn, everyone, your artwork looks amazing!
In Literacy, Year 3 have been busy completing their exciting hot tasks, creating their very own stories inspired by Granny’s Gruesome Grub! The children have been using their imagination and creativity to develop their own unique stories, putting into practice all the fantastic writing techniques we have explored throughout the term. We have been focusing on incorporating a range of literary devices into our writing, including adjectives to describe, adverbs to add detail, nouns to name people and objects and sentences of three to make our writing more engaging for the reader. It has been wonderful to see the children applying these skills independently and bringing their gruesome and imaginative ideas to life on paper! Their stories are already sounding fantastic, and we are so excited to see how they develop further as the children demonstrate just how much they have learnt throughout the term.
In Maths, Year 3 have been developing their addition and subtraction skills, focusing on adding and subtracting multiples of 10 and 100 from a given number. We have also been practising counting over the
tens barrier, using our knowledge of place value to help us work out calculations more confidently. The children made a fantastic start when adding and subtracting tens and hundreds, showing a growing understanding of how the digits in a number change. However, we found that crossing the tens barrier could be a little trickier! To help us strengthen our understanding, we spent some extra time practising this skill through additional examples and activities, breaking the calculations down into smaller, more manageable steps. We have been reminding ourselves that it is okay to find new concepts challenging and that perseverance is an important part of learning. By continuing to practice and build on our place-value knowledge, we are working towards becoming more confident and independent mathematicians.

How you can help at home
Maths - Practice adding and subtracting 100s from a number. For example 100+56=156 and 146-100=46. Another example 689+100=789 and 673-100=573.
Reading - Continue reading with your child everyday, ask questions about the story for comprehension.
Topic - To support our Watermelon Smile art project, encourage your child to look at different portraits and explore how artists use colours, shapes and patterns to create their artwork.
