Phonics Parent Workshops

Dear Parents and Carers,
On Monday 19 October, we will be holding two parent and carer workshops to demonstrate how we teach reading through our Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonics programme.
The sessions are designed to help you understand how reading is taught in school and provide practical ideas and strategies that you can use to support your child at home.
Session 1 – 9:30am: Early Reading and Phonics
This session is particularly suitable for:
-
Parents and carers of children who have recently started Reception.
-
Parents and carers of children in Years 1 and 2 who are still developing their early phonics and reading skills.
Session 2 – 2:30pm: Developing Fluency and Confidence
This session will focus on:
-
Building reading fluency.
-
Reading longer and more complex words, including polysyllabic words.
-
Developing confidence and comprehension.
This workshop is particularly suitable for Year 1 families, as well as Year 2 families who would like some additional guidance on supporting reading at home.
Working closely together gives children the best possible chance to become confident and successful readers, and we hope these sessions will give families a clearer understanding of the approaches and language we use in school.
