We have had another busy week in Year 2! 

🔢 In Maths, we have been learning all about place value, exploring tens and ones and developing our understanding of numbers. We will be continuing with place value next week to build our confidence further. 

📖 In Talk for Writing (T4W), we have started learning our story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have begun creating a story map and adding their own actions to help them remember and retell the story. We have had lots of fun bringing the story to life! 

🏰 We have also officially started our new topic, Towers, Turrets and Tunnels! We have shared what we already know about castles and thought of some fantastic questions about what we would like to find out as our topic develops. 

2. Important information for next week 👑 

🏰 Jump In Day – Monday! 

On Monday, we will be kicking off our topic with our special Jump In Day. Children are invited to come to school dressed as a knight, king, queen, princess or another medieval character. 

We have a fun-filled day planned with lots of hands-on activities, including crafting, cooking and creating medieval-inspired music! 🎨🍴🎵 

As we will be doing some cooking, could parents/carers please let a member of staff know if there have been any changes or updates to your child's allergies or dietary requirements. Thank you! 

We can't wait to see everyone dressed up and ready to jump into our new topic! 🏰 

3. How can you help at home? 🏡 

📚 Please continue to read regularly with your child at home. Reading books should be returned each Friday so that they can be changed. 

You could also practise our current Maths learning by spotting tens and ones in everyday numbers, or ask your child to show you some of the actions they have created to retell Jack and the Beanstalk! 🌱 

We have had a fantastic start to the new school year in Year 2! This week has been all about settling in, building positive relationships and learning our new school rules and routines.

We have also been exploring emotions and thinking about how we can support ourselves and others when experiencing different feelings. We watched Inside Out and discussed the different emotion characters, before exploring how emotions can be represented through colours and sounds. 🎨🎵

We have enjoyed lots of circle time too, sharing our thoughts and talking about how different situations might make us feel. 😊

2. Important information for next week 📚

Reading books will be coming home every Friday. Please practise reading these with your child as often as you can throughout the week. Regular reading at home really helps to build confidence and fluency. Please return reading books to school each Friday so that they can be changed ready for the following week. 📖

🏰 Save the date – Jump In Day!

On Monday 21st September, Year 2 will be having a special ‘Jump In’ Day to help us immerse ourselves in our new Castles topic!

We would love the children to come to school dressed as a knight, queen, king, princess or another medieval character for the day. 👑⚔️🏰

Please don't feel that you need to buy a costume – homemade costumes and simple ideas using things you already have at home are absolutely welcome! The aim is simply to have fun and help bring our new topic to life.

3. How can you help at home? 🏡

Next week we will be starting our exciting new topic — Castles! To get ready, have a chat with your child about any castles you may have visited together as a family. What can they remember? What did the castle look like? Who might have lived there?

You could look through family photographs, spot castles when you are out and about, or even take a little walk over to Barry Castle and see what you can discover! 🏰🔍

We can't wait to hear about the children's experiences and begin our new topic together!
