Y2 Blog Friday 9th October

1. This week’s learning 🌟

We have had another lovely week of learning in Year 2!

📖 In Literacy, we have been getting creative with our writing by creating our very own spine poems! The children have been developing their use of descriptive language, thinking carefully about their word choices and how they can make their writing more interesting and exciting for the reader.

🔢 In Maths, we have been learning how to identify odd and even numbers, exploring patterns and using our number knowledge to help us. We have also moved on to comparing numbers, using our understanding of place value to identify which numbers are greater than, less than or equal to one another.

🎭 We have also been thoroughly enjoying our hall provision, particularly our role-play area! It has been wonderful to see the children using their imaginations, working together and developing their communication and social skills through play.

2. Important information for next week 📅

🏰 Cardiff Castle Trip – Tuesday 10th November

We would like to apologise for any confusion regarding the date of our Cardiff Castle trip. We can now confirm that the trip will be going ahead on the original date of Tuesday 10th November.

We are still on the lookout for parent helpers to join us on the day! If you are available and would like to come along, please let your child's class teacher know. We would really appreciate your support! 😊

🌾 Harvest Donations – Vale Foodbank

A huge thank you to everyone who has kindly donated items for our Harvest collection in support of the Vale Foodbank! Your generosity is greatly appreciated and will help support local families in our community. 💛

We are still accepting donations of non-perishable food items, so if you would still like to contribute, please feel free to send any donations into school.

🧥 Lost Property

We are continuing to collect a large amount of lost property in Year 2. Please could we ask that all clothing, water bottles, lunchboxes and other belongings are clearly labelled with your child's name.

We would also really appreciate it if you could check that any items coming home belong to your child, as occasionally jumpers/ grey PE hoodies and other belongings can get mixed up. If something has come home by mistake, please return it to school so we can reunite it with its owner. Thank you!

📚 Reading Books

A little reminder that reading books should be returned every Friday so that they can be changed. Please continue to practise reading with your child as often as possible throughout the week.

3. How can you help at home? 🏡

📖 To support our Literacy learning, encourage your child to use interesting adjectives to describe everyday objects, people or places. You could even have a go at creating a short poem together using some exciting descriptive words!

🔢 In Maths, you could practise spotting odd and even numbers around the house or when out and about. Challenge your child to compare two numbers and explain which is greater or smaller and how they know.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support! 😊
