Y4 Blog- 16/10/2026

Please enter an introduction for your blog post here.

In Literacy, Year 4 have begun writing their very own fairy tale stories! We have been putting our learning from the past six weeks into practice, using our toolkit to help us create exciting and imaginative tales. The children have done a fantastic job of incorporating a range of descriptive language, including similes, metaphors and carefully chosen adjectives, to bring their stories to life. We have also been thinking carefully about our settings and using our senses to describe what our characters might see, smell and touch. We can’t wait to see how their stories develop next week.

In Maths this week, Year 4 have been learning how to use inverse operations to check their answers to calculations. At first, we found the concept a little tricky to understand, but with practice the children began to recognise how inverse operations can help us check whether our answers are correct. Once we got the hang of it, we discovered that checking our work can be fun!

We celebrated Shwmae Day on Thursday! We had a fantastic day embracing Welsh language and culture, taking part in fun activities and creating some wonderful Welsh-themed crafts. Everyone made a brilliant effort to use the Welsh language at every opportunity, practising familiar phrases and learning new vocabulary throughout the day. It was lovely to see the children getting involved so enthusiastically, building their confidence in speaking Welsh and celebrating the importance of our language and heritage. Da iawn, Year 4.

Important information for next week

-Spellings: Our weekly spellings have been sent home. Please spend some time practising these with your child in preparation for their spelling test the following week.

- PE: Year 4 PE will take place every Thursday. Please ensure that children come to school wearing their PE kit on this day. This should include black shorts or joggers, a plain white T-shirt and trainers.

How can you help at home?

To continue developing greater confidence when recalling their times tables. Short, regular practice can make a big difference and will help children to recall their times tables more quickly and confidently. Thank you.
