Week 8 in Year 6
In Literacy, the children have completed their independent Hot Task for their portal stories. They were then challenged to self-evaluate and up-level sections of their work in ”Blue for Better”. We hope the children continue to read challenging books for pleasure during half-term, especially if the weather is gloomy.
In Maths, our pupils have been revising the work covered over the last 7 weeks on place vale, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. As always, we suggest that the children continue to practise at home with family quizzes, online games (BBC Bitesize) or maths self-study books.
In Topic, we have been incorporating our skills to research and record information about the Day in the Life of a Soldier in the trenches during World War One. The children have built their understanding of the experiences and challenges faced by soldiers during the Great War and they have drawn labelled diagrams of trenches and written paragraphs about how difficult it must have been for the young men day in, day out.
Outdoors. During outdoor learning this week, the children have been picking, cleaning and preparing vegetables for homemade chutneys and jam. They are really enjoying being out in nature and now they are screaming less when they see a wriggly worm or a slimy slug.
Visitors. On Tuesday “Bullies Out” visited to teach our pupils about what bullying looks like, how it affects the victims of bullying, how to important it is to report it and what to do if it happens online.
Halloween. As always, a big thank you to the PTA for organising another fun packed Halloween disco, the children dressed up and enjoyed dancing and eating lots of sweets!
