PLaza Blog- Friday 9th October

1.This week's Learning:
This week we have been continuing to learn the story of Little Red Riding Hood, with actions. In our literacy session we have been learning about adjectives and thinking of different words to describe the wolf. We have used some very big words like fierce, sneaky, ferocious, cunning, vigilant etc. We have worked hard to use adjectives in a sentence. Reception is continuing to work on their sound knowledge and emergent writing. Please continue to support your child with their letter formation. In Numeracy Year 1 have been working on place value and Reception have been practising number recognition and counting objects accurately. Reception have been working hard to write the numbers 1-10 – keep practising at home.

In Read Write Inc., Reception children have been continuing to learn the set 1 sounds and are using sounds they know to read CVC words e.g. mat. Year 1 are continuing to learn their sounds, develop their phonetic decoding skills and practise reading with increasing fluency and accuracy.
Just a reminder that we change reading books on a Friday. Please ensure that books are returned and they are brought into school in a book bag or folder clearly labelled with their name.

2. Important information for next week:
Read Write Inc Workshops will be taking place on Monday 19th October 2026 at 9.15am and 2.30pm. You will have received an email to book for the Read Write Inc workshop and it would be great to see lots of you attending. We are looking forward to welcoming to you to this event to help you support your child at home. There are two Read Write Inc Workshops over the day, if you are unsure which session to attend, please ask your child’s class teacher.
Don’t forget PE is every Monday so please can your child wear their PE kit to school.
3. How you can help at home:
Please can all children continue to practice identifying and writing their name. It would also be beneficial to practice pencil grip and fine motor activities. E.g using kitchen tongs to move items from one bowl to another, threading, playdough etc.
Practise number and letter formation – these do not need to be returned to school as they are a good reference for the rhymes we use, to help children with the correct formation
In addition, can all children's belongings be labelled, specifically snack pots, water bottles, and PE clothing.
Many thanks,
The Plaza Team
