Plaza Blog- Friday 15th October

1.This week's Learning:
Measuring our beanstalks.

Digital navigations skills

This week we enjoyed celebrating Shwmae day and practising our Welsh. Many of the children have had their flu sprays and impressed the nurses with how brave they were! We have been continuing to learn the story of Little Red Riding Hood and exploring adjectives to describe the characters and learning prepositions. Families could practice this at home by placing items on/under/ behind a table and describing this with the children. We have also practised writing prepositions in a sentence e.g the rabbit was on the rock.
In maths, we have been calculating one more. Year 1 have been working with 2 and 3 digit numbers and recording this in our books. Reception have continued to practice recognition of a number, one to one correspondence, sequencing numbers, writing numbers and practically calculating one more. Please continue practising at home.
Just a reminder that we change reading books every Friday. Please ensure that books are returned and they are brought into school in a labelled book bag. If you child has a reading book it is very important that it is returned on a Friday to ensure the children can have a new book which will help them to progress with their reading skills.
Also please ensure school dinners are booked in advance via Parent Pay to ensure your child gets the meal that they like.
2. Important information for next week:
Every Monday in Plaza is PE so please can your child wear their PE kit to school.
Don’t forget on Monday we are running Read Write Inc Workshops at 9.15am (Reception) and 2.30pm (Year 1 or Red group and over). You will have received an email to book for the Read Write Inc workshop and it would be great to see lots of you attending. We are looking forward to welcoming to you to this event to help you support your child at home. There are two Read Write Inc Workshops over the day, if you are unsure which session to attend, please ask your child’s class teacher.
We are looking forward to the PTA Discos next week. Plaza Disco is on Wednesday – please see our PTA page for booking information. Parents are not required to stay but if you are interested in helping please contact our PTA.
3. How you can help at home:
Please can all children continue to practice identifying and writing their name. It would also be beneficial to practice pencil grip and fine motor activities. E.g using kitchen tongs to move items from one bowl to another, threading, playdough etc.
Practise number and letter formation – these do not need to be returned to school as they are a good reference for the rhymes we use, to help children with the correct formation
In addition, can all children's belongings be labelled, specifically snack pots, water bottles, and PE clothing.
Many thanks,
The Plaza Team.
