Y3 Blog- Friday 16th October

This week, the children have been learning all about the journey of a banana! They discovered where bananas grow, how they are harvested and how they travel all the way to the UK before arriving in our shops. We have also begun an exciting art project called ‘The Watermelon Smile’. This creative project will take us a few sessions to complete, but we can’t wait to see the finished masterpieces! The children are thoroughly enjoying designing and creating their own portraits as part of this colourful and imaginative artwork.

In Literacy, we have continued developing our innovative writing plans as we prepare for our hot task next week. The children will have the opportunity to put all their hard work from the past few weeks into practice by creating their very own stories! They will be using the writing tools from our toolkit, including adjectives, powerful verbs and sentences of three, to make their stories exciting, descriptive and engaging for the reader.

In Maths, we have now completed our learning on place value and have moved on to our new topic of addition and subtraction. The children will be developing their understanding of different calculation methods, practising adding and subtracting numbers with increasing confidence, and exploring strategies to help them solve problems accurately and independently. We will continue to build on their mathematical skills through a range of practical activities and challenges to help deepen their understanding.

  1. Important information for next week

PE reminder- PE every Tuesday, so please ensure children are in full PE kit.

After half term we are starting a new art project and need as many old newspapers and magazines as possible. If you have some at home that you wouldn't mind donating to Year 3 it would be much appreciated!

  1. How you can help at home

Maths - Practice adding and subtracting 10s from a number. For example, 56+10=66 and 56-10=46. Another example 689+10=699 and 689-10=679.

Reading - Continue reading with your child every day, ask questions about the story for comprehension.

Topic - To support our Watermelon Smile art project, encourage your child to look at different portraits and explore how artists use colours, shapes and patterns to create their artwork.
