Nursery Sports Day
We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our nursery parents for bringing your children to Sports Day and for your continued support.
We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our nursery parents for bringing your children to Sports Day and for your continued support.
We kindly ask parents and carers to ensure that toys, trading cards, collectables, fidget toys and other non-essential items remain at home.
Recently, a number of friendship issues and upset have arisen as a result of items being swapped, lost, damaged or causing disagreements between children. To help us maintain a happy, calm and inclusive environment for all pupils, we ask that these items are not brought into school.
Where a child requires a specific item as part of their agreed ALN provision, appropriate arrangements will continue to be made.
Thank you for your support and understanding.

Family Help Out Day – Friday 10th July 9am–12pmAs part of our commitment to developing outdoor learning, we are looking for volunteers to help clear and improve areas of the school grounds. If you have access to strimmers, loppers or trimmers, we would be very grateful for your support. *New link below*
Logs Needed:We are hoping to create a log circle within our outdoor learning area. If any families have access to suitable logs, please get in touch.
Over the coming weeks, we will also be exploring ways for parents and the wider community to become more involved in supporting the school and PTA through volunteering and sharing skills or expertise.
Regular attendance really does make a difference to children’s learning, confidence and friendships—every day in school counts. At Romilly, we’ll be keeping a gentle eye on attendance each week so we can celebrate success and offer support where it’s needed. As the Vale of Glamorgan reminds us: “Miss school, miss out”—because those small, everyday moments add up to something big.

On Wednesday, in year 6 we were lucky to receive visitors from the Wales Coastal Monitoring Centre to help us use spreadsheets to work out costs of energy saving lights. It links to our topic on climate change and will help us reduce our costs and carbon footprint. We look forward to seeing them again on Monday during our educational beach visit. This is a great chance to learn about coastal erosion and also to mingle with other primary schools in Barry.
Year 5 pupils have thoroughly enjoyed another music workshop this week, delivered by the Cardiff and Vale Music Education Service. The children have been enthusiastically taking part in vocal and team-building activities, while also learning songs for their upcoming performance at the ‘Y Fro Summer Showcase’ Concert.
The concert will take place at the Memo Arts Centre in Barry on Wednesday 1st July 2026.
Taking part in this concert is free and entirely optional, but we do require parental consent for your child to participate. We would love as many Year 5 children as possible to take part in this exciting opportunity and be involved in such a special event.
If you would like your child to participate, please complete the consent form on ParentPay by Monday 22nd June.
Diolch yn fawr, Year 5
Year 2 cooking club recently enjoyed their final session of the term with a delicious activity – making chocolate brownies!
The children were excited to follow the recipe, carefully measuring ingredients, mixing, and preparing their tasty treats. There was a wonderful buzz in the room as everyone worked together, practising important cooking skills and teamwork.
However, the session did not go entirely to plan! A small mishap occurred when some of the brownies ended up a little more “well done” than expected – a situation that was light-heartedly blamed on Mrs Gilbert! Despite this minor setback, spirits remained high and the children still had a great time.
All was certainly not lost. Thanks to the quick thinking and kindness of Mrs Figueres, who very kindly rushed home to prepare replacement brownies for the following day, everyone was still able to enjoy a delicious treat.
It was a fun and memorable way to end the cooking club, full of laughter, learning, and a reminder that even when things don’t go perfectly, teamwork and positivity can save the day!
Pupils in Year 2 and Year 3 recently took part in an exciting and informative visit from a Police Liaison Officer, who came into school to teach them all about staying safe in the community.
During the visit, the officer spoke to the children about the important role the police play in helping people and keeping everyone safe. The children learned how to recognise when a situation might be risky and what they can do to protect themselves if they feel unsure or worried.
The children were enthusiastic and engaged throughout the visit, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their own ideas about keeping safe. They particularly enjoyed seeing some of the police equipment and learning how officers communicate while on duty.
This valuable experience has helped pupils to feel more confident and aware of how to stay safe both in school and in the wider community. The school would like to thank the Police Liaison Officer for taking the time to deliver such an important and memorable session.
