Playground Pals Launch

On Wednesday, we kicked off our Y5/6 committees with the charity Bullies Out coming in to do a workshop for our Equality Crew. Twenty-two pupils who have said they have a passion for promoting anti-bullying and anti-racism were part of the day-long workshop run by the wonderful Alex. During the workshop, children learned about rights v responsibilities, discussed scenarios, learned about active listening and supporting those when speaking, feelings and emotions, drama of playground conflict and resolutions and some ideas of inclusive games.

The workshop also trained our children in how to be a 'Playground Pal'. A Playground Pal is a pupil who has made the commitment to help and encourage happy and sociable playtimes. They will be the point of contact for children during breaks to help encourage games and sort out any minor concerns. They do not replace the role of the teacher but can support both children and staff.

Playground Pals will help to promote a positive lunchtime and playtime policy. They will do this by inspiring children with inclusive playground games including introducing new games, creating zoned activity areas, encourage safe play, enhancing morale and team spirit, improving wet play activities and providing a respectful link between children and staff. They will regularly meet the co-ordinator (Mrs Cho) to give feedback and ideas for improvement.

Furthermore, these children will play a vital role in organising Romilly's Anti-Bullying week in a few weeks (more information to follow in due course). We are very excited for our new Equality Crew and for our Playground Pals and think they will have a positive impact for the future of our school.
