Families First
Putting Families First is a programme of intervention and support for parents delivered through schools. Schools play a pivotal role in a child’s life and this provides a unique opportunity to engage with parents and carers to support the achievement of children through programme of activities which help families to help each other to reach their full potential.
The programme provides a coordinated approach to the delivery of local services, interventions and support for parents through regular parent groups and a whole school approach which supports parental engagement. Putting Families First promotes positive relationships with parents through a consistent, informal approach which has been developed to promote personal confidence and provide access to services and support for families in a way that is effective for them as individuals.
Sessions and interventions are fun and informative and run by existing school staff. By attending an informal parent group, parents can access information and support through parenting programmes; play development; adult education; dealing with stress and anxiety; supporting children to learn to read; first aid, basic skills and many more. Each school has its own programme tailored to the needs of the group.
